Thoughts on nitrification by Archaea and Bacteria

My slides: http://web.uvic.ca/~hakase/docs/BGC_nitrification.pdf

Jargon:
From Zehr and Kudela 2013(?):
  • Check Hollibaugh et al. 2002 for nitrifiers in the Arctic water.
Comments:

Prior to 2004, bacteria was thought to perform nitrification. Now, we know that archaea does that too. Since Archaea is found throughout the water column, so does nitrification? But recent rate measurement still shows photoinhibition.

AOA is dominates the ammonia oxidation while AOB dominates the nitrite oxidation. So how do we model?
